Wow. The way that there is no explicit mention of who Dru's pursuer is, only a view of events that is just a half-step removed weighs it down with the future as events compound on one another to lead to the inevitable. I liked that you gave Dru's family, characters who haven't received much attention at all, personalities and a place in the story- you fleshed out her relatives, showed their strengths and flaws with beautifully spare language, and then let fate take its course.
