Perhaps am I rude, but your fic hits one of my pet pewees. I think one could view ”THE LIE” from several perspectives, and yes I know I am beating on a long dead horse. But in my personal opinion was Xanders motives probably layered. First of all it was a good tactic, if Buffy knew that Willow was trying to re-soul Angel, she would not fight Angelus 100 %, and in end of the world scenario, you can afford to lower ones chances for success, as we only got this one world (this of course only a personal observation that I have made, from my many world saving heroics). We don’t really know if Willow could really cast the spell, she was not super witch at that time and she probably had a concussion. Xander action did probably also got influenced that he liked Buffy, and he did probably see Angel as problem for Buffy happiness in the long run even with Angel with a soul. At last just rhetorical question; Should Buffy apologise to the family and friends that Angelus killed after Buffy more less let him go, in the episode where Buffy blow up the Judge?
