Thanks, S....Pyewacket is the name of an old witch's familiar. Not sure if it was originally a cat. I first heard it in the Jimmy Stewart/Kim Novak movie "Bell, Book and Candle" -- I had a terrible crush on Kim Novak and her familiar's name in the movie was Pyewacket. So I vowed if I ever had a kitty, that would be its name.

One day, when she was a wee kitty, I was telling D how I was the lead soprano in my HS glee club, and that I'd go off-key so often that I'd throw off the whole club. To demonstrate, I belted out an ear-spiltting version of "If Ever I Would Leave You" and Pye came flying in the room, jumped on the bed, ears pricked up and all "WHAT?????" So we trained her to come whenever we sang. That's how we called her until about a year ago when we realized she'd lost her hearing. But the funny thing is that our other cats (the late Savannah) and Steve also learned from her to come when we sang!!
